Welcome to my class! I am excited to work with you and your child this school year. Please feel free to email or call me with questions--I am here to help your child succeed. My contact information is at the bottom of this page.
Here is what to look for when you are enrolled in my classes:
World Geography
In this class, we will explore the globe and look at how physical geography has shaped and influenced human geography. First we will establish a foundation of key terms associated with both physical and human geography. Once that is established, we will cover the different regions around the world such as North America, South America, Russia and its Republics, and Southwest Asia. However, students will also be looking at how each of these regions have impacted the United States throughout history as a way to better prepare them when they reach 11th grade US History and they take the STAAR End Of Course Exam for US History.
World History
This class covers a very long and extensive time period of human history. Starting from 10,000 B.C.E. to the Present, students will look at a vast amount of historical figures and events. As we go through each time period, students will be shown how events that happened a long time ago are connected to events that are happening now. The only way to appreciate and better understand history is by making the past relatable and relevant to the present.
AP US History
This class can possibly be one of the toughest classes students will take in high school. Starting from 1492 all the way to the present, and using AP approved textbooks, this is almost the closest thing a student can take to a college level course of US History. Consisting of 9 time periods, students will be using primary and secondary sources to prepare them for the AP exam in May. However, they will also be using these acquired skills to prepare for the End of Course exam for STAAR.
AP US Government and Politics
We are going to explore the foundations of government, as well as how it functions, the roles and responsibilities of citizens within a democracy, and many other topics such the importance of the bureaucracy within government, the role of the media in relation to the 1st amendment, and the evolution of our government since its origins in the late 18th century.
AP Microeconomics
In Economics, there are two types of disciplines a student can study. There is Macroeconomics and Microeconomics. Macroeconomics is like looking at the entire pie, whereas Microeconomics is looking at one piece of the pie. In this case, for Microeconomics, we will be taking a deeper look at how the smaller parts of the American economy work and operate. Before doing that however, we will establish a foundation by analyzing and looking at terms and formulas to have a better understanding of the basics of our economy.
